OL 175 Business Analysis Introduction

Students examine the fundamental processes, roles and responsibilities of the business analyst. The course curriculum is consistent with version 3 of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) from the IIBA International Institute of Business Analysis. Students explore the use of tools and techniques used by business analysts within the broader context of organizations and their projects. They review methodologies used to equip the business analyst to better perform as a communication link between all business stakeholders and help them deliver on their key role in project and organizational success. The role of the business analyst as an agent of change is also highlighted. Students learn to plan, structure, and control the requirements elicitation and communication process, in order to maximize success and optimize results. These techniques can be utilized on a wide variety of activities, initiatives and projects and are an important component for success. Additionally studies include the effective use of requirements and life cycle management techniques. Through the combination of lectures, discussions and exercises, the course provides insights into the interaction between the business analyst and his or her surrounding environment and presents methodologies to identify, analyze and resolve business problems. OL 335 Organizational Business Communications

Provides an overview of important communication concepts and skills required in business. Topics covered include: writing clear reports and documentation, making effective presentations, and fostering interpersonal skills. Computer Software Requirements: The ability to record and post an video message is a small activity requirement.
OL 601 Business Finance I

This course provides an overview of financial management and covers financial statement analysis, forecasting, operating and financial leverage, working capital management, and sources of short-term financing. It provides a brief review of time value of money concepts as a stepping stone for capital budgeting decisions to be reviewed in OL085 Business Finance II. Some long-term financing valuation concepts are also addressed. We recommend students take OL109 prior to taking this course.
OL 125 Management Principles

Focus is placed on the development of modern management; organizational theory; the processes of planning, organizing, directing, and controlling; communications; behavioural strategies and techniques; ethical and social responsibilities in the practice of management; and an overview of human relations.
OL 372 Introduction to Project Management

Project management practitioners need to understand the established industry norms, methods, and practices for managing all stages of the project life cycle and its related processes. Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of project management, such as project strategy, selection, scheduling, risk management, quality assurance, performance measurement, audit and closure. Students are prepared for a business environment increasingly affected by laws. They learn how laws must be understood and applied by management in the conduct of business. They also learn how to analyze a business situation from a general legal perspective. Emphasis is placed on methods of dispute resolution, contracts, torts, employment law, methods of carrying on business, creditors' rights, sale of goods and marketing law.

The focus of this course is to provide students with an understanding of accounting, financial statements analysis, and managerial accounting-based decisions used by business and human resources managers. The fundamental principles of financial and management accounting will be combined with practical applications relating to various organizational forms. In addition, Canada's international economic relationships are explored. The functions of project planning and scheduling, resource allocation and costing, progress monitoring and reporting are explored in detail. Through applying project software tools and techniques students develop the skills required to successful projects. Computer Software Requirements: MS Project 2016 or MS Project 2019 will be accommodated. Software is not provided. Students will be responsible for ensuring they have access to the software. Leadership today involves all aspects of an organization and multiple skills, duties and responsibilities. This course is designed to meet the needs of leaders in any organization who may be new to project management or who have not had formal project management training. This course provides the practical knowledge to start and complete a project successfully from a leadership perspective. You will learn how the elements of the Project Management Body of Knowledge are applied during each phase of a project's life cycle and the implications of project management on leadership within an organization. Project management software increases the ability of the project manager to work more efficiently. The functions of project planning and scheduling, resource allocation and costing, progress monitoring and reporting are explored in detail. Through applying project software tools and techniques students develop the skills required to successful projects. Computer Software Requirements: MS Project 2016 or MS Project 2019 will be accommodated. Software is not provided. Students will be responsible for ensuring they have access to the software. Access to MS Project 2016 or 2019 software for the duration of the 14 week course is critical to the success of the course. We recommend students take OL372 prior to taking this course.

Leadership today involves all aspects of an organization and multiple skills, duties and responsibilities. This course is designed to meet the needs of leaders in any organization who may be new to project management or who have not had formal project management training. This course provides the practical knowledge to start and complete a project successfully from a leadership perspective. You will learn how the elements of the Project Management Body of Knowledge are applied during each phase of a project's life cycle and the implications of project management on leadership within an organization. This will help establish priorities and effectively manage your projects and project teams.This course includes mandatory group work. OL 123 Materials and Operations Management

Operations managers make tactical decisions in support of carrying out the vision and strategies for businesses in the supply chain and/or in service production. Students gain in-depth knowledge of the responsibilities and current tools of operations and supply chain managers in manufacturing and non-manufacturing organizations. Topics include project management, quality management, layout management, location, inventory management, MRP and ERP and JIT/Lean.
